MANILA, May 22 (PNA) – Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. on Thursday expressed elation over the effort of Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin to rectify his error when he said he might need a Filipino ‘mail-order bride’ to achieve his goal of having more children.

”I appreciate Mr. Baldwin's effort to rectify his error. I am very elated that he has seen his error and apologized to our women and our nation,” Revilla said in a press statement.

Revilla said Baldwin should learn how to respect the Filipina women and the Philippines to avoid repetition of the discriminatory statements which drew protest from the government officials.

”I hope that people throughout the globe would be more sensitive to the sensibilities of the various races of the world,” Revilla said.

In Baldwin’s statements which copies have been distributed to the Senate media, the Hollywood actor said he was just making a joke since he was the guest of the David Letterman program.

”I believe that most people understood that this was a joke and took it as such. However, I apologize to anyone who took offense,” Baldwin explained.

Baldwin said he expected the Filipino government officials’ reactions, including the challenge of Revilla for him to come to the Philippines so that the Filipino lawmaker could beat him. (PNA)
